Forss Ecclesia – App Launch & Release Party @ Berghain Berlin (May 2nd)

Ecclesia is the latest release of electronica artist Forss (musician and entrepreneur; co-founder of soundcloud). In collaboration with untouch.fm and designer Leo Lass this audio-visual album was created. Here is a sneak peek of the iPad App (see video below) and some exclusive stills of tracks #8 and #10, which I worked on a lot. I was lead programmer on the app (which also includes the event visuals), and I’m pretty proud to announce that on May 2nd there will be a big release party at the Berghain in Berlin!

Monkeyshot #4 @Pictoplasma Berlin

Monkeyshot #4 (alias Monkeyboxes) will be screened at the Pictoplasma Festival in Berlin. I did the animation and a lot of the compositing on it. Here’s the project page.

Procedural Animation Workshop 2011

Like in 2010, I held the “Procedural Animation” class at the University of Applied Sciences Hagenberg in October 2011. Again, the students had to create a procedural still using MEL or Python in Autodesk Maya. This year, the task was to visualize a part of the computer’s directory tree. The data was all given by the file system — file sizes, directories, files, links, file names, creation-/modification-/last-access-dates, number of files in a directory, file types, file extensions,… After one and a half days of theoretical introduction and one and a half day of actual work, the students produced great artworks, in both artistic and technical regard.

New Office (2010)

This post is a bit (1 ½ years) late, but I recently stumbled upon these pics and here they are.. At that time my office was completely rebuilt. I’ve done a rough blueprint/3D layout in order to check how all the stuff i needed would fit in this quite small room (2.95 x 4.15m). On the lower corner there’s also a sofa and some more shelves. In the right corner there’ll be a flat screen for watching films and TV. The rendering is really simple, nothing fancy, took about 10 hours to create from scratch. Everything seen is true to scale, even my beloved Wacom tablet. The yellow wall was my mum’s idea :)

The Monkeycrew is back on track with 5 new sweet little animations. This time around we decided to let some of our little Monkeys go wild on their own. We armed them with their most favourite toys to see what they end up with. In the future we will release more of these whenever we see fit. [monkeymen.tv]

I did not ideate/direct any of the clips, I just did the 3D part on the monkeyshot#4 one. Be shure to check all of them, also the outtake#1, which I like especially.

And that’s me with a quite expensive (at least for home use, € 25.000+ is quite expensive) 2K Projector (unfortunately just borrowed) previewing some of the content we (m-box) produced for a client, which in fact is a renowned projector manufacturer – what a coincidence.

Procedural Animation Workshop

Last week I held a class called “Procedural Animation” at the University of Applied Sciences Hagenberg (Masters Degree Digital Arts). After having to listen to some theory, the students had to create a procedural artwork using MEL or Python in Autodesk Maya. The task was to visualize spam-emails. The results are really cool I think. They were all created by generating 3D geometry based on various parameters, gathered from parsed text files (spam emails), and by adding some randomness here and there. Good job!
