Äußerst gut das (wie gewohnt) höchst schwammige, aber wohl recht aktuelle Leitthema der Ars “Repair” kommentierend, die Gedanken unweigerlich in Gang setzend, einfach köstlich. Höchste Zeit wieder “höher [zu] hängen” ist hier formal und inhaltlich die Devise.

Ryoichi Kurokawa: Rheo: 5 Horizons [3].

Weiters sehr schön: Rheo: 5 Horizons. Sehr gut unterstützt durch die Räumlichkeiten der Tabakfabrik; endlich etwas, wo sie keinen Studenten mit “Repair”-T-Shirt hinstellen mussten, der gleich schreiend auf einen zuläuft: “Haben sie sich den Text dazu schon durchgelesen oder wissen Sie leicht schon worums geht????”. Ganz ehrlich: Endlich mal was, wo nicht der Text alleine schon die große Kunst ist, sondern das Werk für sich steht, und per se eine kontemplative Anschauung ermöglicht. Davon gab es noch mehr: Squidsoup: Ocean Of Light: Surface, Leo Pschta: Windrecordeer SR-1, Gordan Savicic & Leo Peschta: WERP_BOT — zweifellos die beste interaktive Arbeit, die dem “Tschick” rufenden Besucher eine Zigarette in den Mund wirft. Die überwältigende Erregung des Augenblicks hinterlässt beim Raucher ein Gefühl der Erleichterung und Befriedigung; sein Coolness-Faktor ist sichtlich gesteigert.

Weiters Finnbogi Pétursson: Earth, die Fotografieserie My husband and me, me and my wife von Nico Ferrando, Die Laser-Portraits fade-out von Dalto Manabe & Motol Isibashi (okay, das ist wohl ein “Knopf-drücken-Staunen”-Arbeit, aber eine das pure Spektakel mit dem Ansprechenden, Mehrschichtigen, rohen Formalen vereinende), Chapter I: The Discovery von Félix Luque Sánczhez, Jonathan Schipper: Measuring Angst und Thomas Thwaites großartiges Toaster Project.

Diese Arbeiten zu beschreiben wäre zum einen viel zu viel Arbeit und Texte und Bilder würden diesen Werken ohnehin nicht gerecht. Ansehen!

Braun Tube Jazz Band (Ei Wada) war eine tolle Performance, von denen es zwar eine Hand voll, aber trotzdem zu wenige (gute) gab.

Die Ars dieses Jahr also wirklich sehenswert, die trotz Ars-Themenwahl guten Arbeiten, und das Gelände, das jeder Arbeit gehörig Raum gibt, lohnen sich gesehen gesehen zu werden.

Was fehlt in den oben genannten Arbeiten? Gut gemeinte Weltverbesserer-Selbstbejahung, Bio-Wahnsinn, Öko-Paranoia, Das-Ohnehin-Schlechte-Schlechtredende, hoffnungslose Inhalts-Überladung, Formlosigkeit. Und das ist gut so.

Mist ist ist trotzdem genug dabei. Tipp: Einfach schnell weitergehen, bevor man angequatscht wird. Dann bleibt mehr Zeit, um sich zuhause in hedonistischer Manier einen BigMac reinzustopfen und eine Nachmittags-Richtersendung zu schaun, was um Häuser besser als so mancher Beschreibungstext von Wir-Sind-Die-Guten-Schaut-Auf-Das-Übel-Dieser-Welt-Steht-Doch-In-Der-Beschreibung-Pseudo-Kunstwerken. Whow, quite some time of inactivity here… Yet, stuff has happened. Alexandra and me are blogging Berlin-Updates and -Experiences on blog.alexandrafried.com.

We just came back from the ARS Electronica Festival (Tagline “Repair”), which was great this year. Be shure to check it out if you can. It was great to see Dorian Concept and James Blake there, two guys whose music I really love (former I have worked with once, latter I have taken music from for another piece of animation). David O’Reilly is about to release his new short, The External World, which I am eagerly awaiting to watch. Mount Kimbie in Session at Gilles Peterson’s Worldwide show this week, also really enjoyed this one. Seen Nosaj Thing at the Icon Club a week before, was nice too. Musicwise, so to say, everything is fine, and I’m also looking forward to some big dates in Berlin, too.

I’m proud to announce that PP-P4#~\ made it into this years selection of the ARS Electronica Animation Festival. And, what I find cool too, is that when you search for “ARS electronica animation festival 2010″ on Google, the third entry is a link to my website (the ARS trailer 2009), and the fifth is a link to David O’Reillys site, who should have been the winner of the festival in 2008 (with Please Say Something), but did just get an honorary mention. What an underestimation of his work!

Is that google stuff just a result of me being tracking down by big brother or are the results reproducable elsewhere? Yes, it is…

Just did a variation on the Kat Poster, changing the sign to Sit. It went to those very nice guys at a design atelier called »SIT Designbureau« in the center of Linz, where I was stationed for a few months in 2010. See more here.

Oh it’s just so nice here! But soon I’ll leave this beautiful place in favour of a big big town… I took this picture recently when walking my parent’s dog out. Note the cattle!

Oh yes, the worldcup is so much fun! But instead of having just one favourite team, its even more fun to have a favourite team (or even a preferred result) for each and every game! So Alexandra and I decided to bet on each game. We set up a google spreadsheet (google docs are awesome anyway) and a simple rule: 1 Point for guessing right the winner or a draw, 3 Points for getting the result right. We just have to fill in our bets and a cool formula does the rest. Click the image for full-size view and formula.

To be honest, I am not a particular fan of politically or morally motivated films or documentaries. But this one, done by Alexander Piringer is really worth taking a look at. It conveyes a proper amount of information, stays quite objective (or maybe reflects my own opinion just right, hehe), includes a chronicle of sci-fi-classics (!!!), and is really nicely done, especially in consideration of the fact that it was a two man show (narrator: Remo Rauscher) without any budget at all. Fun to watch!
